Charles David "Charlie" Overton, Sr. passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 6, 2020, at his home near Batesville, MS.

The family will hold a private family memorial service on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. We will provide a live stream here prior to the service for those wishing to watch.

Charlie was born March 4, 1941, to the late Charles Carroll Overton and Marcelle Nixon Overton Pitts in Memphis, TN. He married the love of his life in September of 1963, Dorothy “Dottie” Dilmore. Together they reared two children, Mona and “C.D”. Charlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and MS National Guard. He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. in 1965 and U.S. Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS from 1980 to 1983. Charlie served within the 1/108th Armored Cavalry Squadron, 155th Armored Brigade, and as Recruiting Induction Officer for 155th Armored Brigade. Charlie retired as Colonel after serving 30 years in the Army and MS National Guard. He served as Site Manager of Computer Simulation for the Dept. of Defense at Camp McCain for 19 years. He retired in 2009 to enjoy time with his family and the opportunity to play golf. The Overton family has lived and farmed in the Curtis Community for 50 plus years. Charlie was a member of Batesville First United Methodist Church and the Explorer’s Bible Study.

The loving family he leaves behind to cherish his precious memory include his wife of 57 years, Dottie Dilmore Overton of Batesville; 2 children, Mona Overton Couey (Chris) of Jackson, Charles David “C.D.” Overton (Amanda) of Batesville; sister, Terry Glascock Taylor of Chattanooga, TN; 3 precious grandchildren, Camille Couey and Ava Couey, both of Jackson, and Graham Overton of Batesville.

Charlie was funny, compassionate, a loyal friend, and a cheerful giver. He loved God, his family, and his friends. He was a great story teller and an accomplished embellisher. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
