Linn Mitchell, age 69, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at his home near Batesville, MS.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at Wells Funeral Home followed by a 2:30 P.M. graveside service at Crowder Cemetery in Crowder, MS.
Linn was born June 17, 1949, in Indianola, MS to the late Tom Byrd and Flora Lee Holmes Mitchell. Linn joined the U.S. Army on September 12, 1966 in Jackson, MS and honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Crew Chief of the 1st Calvary Medi-Vac and was honorably discharged on April 27, 1969. He was a longtime employee of Self and Company Farms, and went on to become the gin manager of Vance Gin Company in Vance, MS. Linn enjoyed hunting and fishing while not hard at work. He was also a Mason.
Linn’s loving and caring memory will be cherished by his wife, Lois Gant Mitchell of Batesville, MS; daughter, Renea Mitchell Simmerman and husband, Michael of Olive Branch, MS; son, Greg Mitchell and wife Christy Brower of Hernando, MS; three brothers, Shine Mitchell of Gulfport, MS, Jerry Mitchell of Indianola, MS, Gordon Mitchell of Linn, MS; five grandchildren, Lauren, Garrett, Thomas, Trevor and Addison.
Other than his parents, Linn was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Mitchell, Thomas Allen Mitchell, and James Lee Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Lane, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Panola County Cancer Relief, P.O. Box 1718, Batesville, MS. 38606.
