William "Bill" Howard Hellums, age 90, passed away at his home in Pope on July 12, 2018.
The family will hold a memorial service for Bill on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 4:00 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Rev Dave Tribble will officiate. Bill's cremains will be inurned along with his wife Rose at Crittenden Memorial Cemetery in Marion, AR. at a later date.
Bill was born August 12, 1927 to the late Lawrence G. Hellums and Irrie Lenore Horde Hellums in Boonville, MS. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for nine years. Six of those years stationed in Germany post WWII. Bill was married to the late Rose Welch Hellums for 42 years and had 2 step-children. Bill was a retired truck driver for Chevron. Before and after retirement Bill enjoyed volunteering for serval organizations. He volunteered for the American Red Cross in West Memphis, AR., The Corp of Engineers at Chickasaw Hill for 32 years, the Fishing Day at Enid Lake for the physically challenged and Veteran's since inception. Bill was a member of the CB Club and VFW in West Memphis. He was a lifelong member of the Chickasaw Hills Slab Slobs.
In addition to Bill's parents and wife Rose, Bill was preceded in death by one step-one, Wayne Hall; one sister, Jannae Hellums; and one brother, James Hellums. Bill is survived by one step-daughter, Martha Graves, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
