William (Will) Powell Atkinson, age 46, passed away November 28, 2018, at his home in Oxford, Miss.
A private memorial service was held in Oxford on December 1, for immediate family.
Will was born May 12, 1972, to Sandra Jo Brown Atkinson and the late William Edward “Bill” Atkinson in Jackson, Miss. He spent his youth in Pickens, Miss. A 1991 graduate of Central Holmes Academy, Will was honored to play in the Academy All-Star football game. After high school, he attended Holmes Community College. During his lifetime, he worked many jobs, including KBR-Halliburton in Iraq, for several years, which afforded him the opportunity to travel and see other parts of the world. He also worked for Planters Gin Co., in Memphis, Tenn., and Goetz & Sons, Inc. While an avid outdoorsman and Ole Miss Rebels fan, Will enjoyed great stories and a good fire amongst family and friends at the camp. He was also a lifetime member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Edward “Bill” Atkinson.
Survivors include his mother, Sandra Jo Brown Atkinson of Florence, Ala.; three siblings: Britton Watson (Gregory) of Florence, Ala., Clark Atkinson (Lesley) of Monroe, La., and Ben Atkinson (Marisa) of Oxford, Miss.; and six nephews and three nieces.
