Webster Mehan, age 94, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at his home in Pope, MS.

A Celebration of Webster's Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery near Enid, MS. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, October 17, 2023 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Wells Funeral Home.

Webster was born August 29, 1929, in Quitman County, MS to the late William Henry and Nora Homan Mehan. Being born eighth out of nine children, Webster had to grow up quickly while working with his parents as sharecroppers. At the age of twenty one, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country honorably in the Korean War. Webster had to leave his new bride, Helen, who he would be blessed to spend sixty-eight wonderful years with before her passing in 2018. He was a member and former pastor of Abundant Light Apostolic Church in Pope, MS for eight years where he had also served as deacon. Webster loved serving and worshiping his Lord first and foremost. He was most notable for his woodworking skills. Webster enjoyed traveling to area flea markets selling his skilled products. He received great comfort giving away his woodwork to children and others. At the age of ninety-three, Webster was blessed to have killed his first deer. He made the local paper and national magazines for this achievement.

Webster’s loving memory will be cherished by his two children, Loretta Jean Brent (David) of Pope, MS, Daniel Kenneth Mehan (Vivian) of Pope, MS; five grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson (Kim), Amanda Anderson (Eley), Daniel Mehan (Karen), Matthew Mehan, Jennifer Mehan Sarabia (Mark); ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Webster was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen Irene Mehan; five sisters and three brothers, and also his beloved sister-in-law, Mary Hawkins of Pascagoula, MS.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abundant Light Church, 109 Boyle St. Batesville MS 38606.
