Thomas O. "Tommy" Brooks, age 83, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Azalea Commons in Batesville, MS.

A celebration of Tommy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the Batesville Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jerry Long officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Tommy was born on July 1, 1941 to the late Thomas O. Brooks, Sr. and Lynn Sheffield Brooks in Yazoo City, MS. An alumnus of Okolona High School, Tommy furthered his education at Delta State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Music Education. This foundation allowed him to cultivate a rewarding career dedicated to teaching music and nurturing young talent.

Tommy's career as an educator began with his role as the Band Director at South Panola High School and Junior High School, where he inspired countless students from 1965 to 1985. He also served as a Park Ranger at Enid Lake for the Corps of Engineers for 29 years, blending his love for nature with his dedication to service. Tommy retired in 2003, leaving behind a legacy characterized by a profound impact on both his students and the natural world.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Tommy served honorably in the Mississippi National Guard. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as he actively participated in various community organizations. As a devoted member of Batesville Presbyterian Church, he held roles as an elder, trustee, and deacon, further exemplifying his dedication to his faith and community. Tommy was also a proud member of the American Legion.

Outside of his professional and community commitments, Tommy had a profound love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archery, activities that brought him joy and tranquility in the natural beauty of Mississippi.

The family Tommy leaves behind includes his wife, Denise P. Brooks of Batesville, MS; his two daughters, Heather Brooks of Olive Branch, MS, and Tayna Hopper of Batesville, MS; his step-son, David Jowers of Paducah, KY; four grandchildren, Walt Hopper (Courtney), Emily Hopper, Erin Womble (Ben), and Daniel Hopper (fiancé Katie Horton); and 9 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Brooks; his sister, Dianna Johnson; and one great grandchild, Vivian Kate Hopper.
