Stephen J. Carter

Stephen J. Carter, age 89, passed away late Sunday evening, June 2, 2019, at West Point Community Living Center in West Point, MS.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Wells Funeral Home from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. with the funeral service on Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The interment will follow in Union Cemetery near Sardis, MS.

Stephen was born May 25, 1930 in Holmes County, MS to the late Solomon Stephens and Dessie Mae Self Carter. He was the retired owner of Panola Lawn and Garden in Sardis, MS. Mr. Carter honorably served his country in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Corporal. In appreciation of his service to our country, military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.

Stephen's memory will live on through his loving family, which includes, his wife, Elizabeth Moore Carter of Sardis, MS; two sons, Paul Stephen Carter of Horn Lake, MS, Ronald J. Carter of Lebanon, TN; two sisters, Nellie Mae Carter Nelson of Jackson, MS, Patricia Ann Holcombe of Pontotoc, MS; three brothers, Leroy Carter of Vicksburg, MS, Bobby Gene Carter of Rena Lara, MS, James Walter Carter of Arkansas; twenty-two grandchildren and forty-three great-grandchildren.
