Sandra Stone

Sandra Lee Campbell Stone, age 90, passed away Sunday evening, November 26, 2023, at her home in Batesville, MS.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Batesville First Methodist Church with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.

Sandra was born September 1, 1933, in Duck Hill, MS to the late Mike Carroll Campbell, Sr. and Edna Jackson Campbell. Sandra was a precocious student and graduated from Grenada High School at 15 years old and received B.S. degree in both Chemistry and Biology from Millsaps College at 18 years old. She was accepted to medical school, but her plans changed when she met a handsome medical student, Deck Stone. Sandra and Deck were married August 17, 1952, and spent the next 68 years together. They settled in Batesville, MS in 1957, and Dr. Stone opened Stone Clinic which later became South Panola Hospital and Parkview Clinic. Sandra helped manage business affairs for the office.

Sandra and Deck raised their four children Carol Anne, Kent, Lynn, and Glen. Sandra was a voracious reader, avid bridge player and swimmer. She was a friend to many and quietly helped many people in their times of need. She was a member of the Methodist Church and co-taught the 2-year-old class for many years.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, Judson Dorroh, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Deck Stone, her son, Kent Deck Stone, her son-in-law Robert Lightsey and her brothers, Dr. Mike Campbell, Jr. and Bob Campbell, sister-in-law, Yona Holroyd (Dr. Bill) and brother-in-law Van Stone (JoAnn).

The loving family she leaves behind includes her children, Carol Anne Stone Lightsey of Batesville, MS, Dr. Lynn Stone Kebert (Dr. Kent) of McComb, MS, Dr. Glen Henry Stone (Dr. Tu Lam) of Oxford, MS, grandchildren, Dr. Sandra Lynn Lightsey Bright (Josh) of Batesville, MS, Robert Bradford “Brad” Lightsey (Kerry) of Batesville, MS, Alan Kebert (Dr. Shauna) of Athens, GA, Karen Lynn Kebert of Boise, ID, Dr. Laura Claire Kebert Himel (Dr. Sean) of Memphis, TN, Richard Glen Stone (Bennie) of Senatobia, MS, Garret Michael Stone (Jamie) of Germantown, TN, Cameron Peyton Cummings of Memphis, TN, Jackson Deck Stone of Oxford, MS and Brec Van Stone of Oxford, MS; great-grandchildren, Sadie Bright, Anson Bright, Kate Bright, Easton Lightsey, Carter Lightsey, Reise Lightsey, Lance Lusk, Riley Stone and Luke Stone.

Memorial may be made to The Cross, 107 Quail Run, Batesville, MS 38606, Batesville First Methodist Church, 119 Panola Avenue, Batesville, MS or to a charity of the donor's choice.
