Sam Chrestman, Jr.

S.W. "Sam" Chrestman Jr., age 79, passed away at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis on July 11, 2019. He was the husband of Betty Jean Chrestman and father of Tanya Hodges of Sardis.

Funeral services for Sam will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw following the service Sunday. Mr. Hal Johnson and Rev. Mike Jernigan will officiate.

Sam was born June 10, 1940 to the late S.W. Chrestman and Rosie Ingram Chrestman in Marks, MS. Sam was a retired maintenance manager for the City of Memphis where he oversaw the city’s sewer pumps. Sam loved working and following his retirement from the city, he opened C & C Pump Service. Sam was a member of the Horn Lake Masons Lodge #617. He was a Gideon and a member of First Baptist Church in Sardis.  Sam enjoyed having breakfast with his friends each day around town. He liked to ride on his tractors. Sam was always willing to help others. His most beloved joy was spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Steve Chrestman.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Huffstickler Chrestman of Sardis; one daughter, Tanya Hodges (Scott) of Sardis; two granddaughters, Jamie Melton (Cody), and Kellie Wilson (Archie) both of Sardis; three step-grandsons, Ben Hodges, Joshua Hodges, and Devin Hodges of Sardis; three great grandchildren, Jaysen Wilson, Sophie Wilson, and Trevor Melton all of Sardis; one brother, Paul Chrestman of Hernando; and one sister, Martha Dubois of Sardis.
