Roy Douglas "Doug" Fowler, age 84, passed away at his home in Courtland Friday evening, June 30, 2017. Mr. Fowler is the widower of the late Marjorie Lee Bumpous Fowler.Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Eureka Private Cemetery near Courtland, MS. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning and continue until service time.Doug was born March 30, 1933 in Courtland, MS to the late John Angelo and Nettie Hyland Fowler. He was a retired dock worker for East Texas Motor Freight. Doug was a Mason and member of Love Joy Methodist Church. He had a special love for his family and grandchildren, as well as his many friends. Doug always put others first and believed in helping everyone. He had a huge heart and was dedicated to his church at Love Joy Methodist, and he loved his Lord Jesus Christ. Doug was a one of a kind; a simple man. He was so very loved by so many and will be greatly missed.Doug is survived by his daughter, Sondra Denise Fowler of Senatobia, MS; son, Lanny Douglas Fowler of Hernando, MS; sister, Ossie Fay Fowler White of Nacogdoches, TX; four grandchildren, Michael Paul Fowler, Brandon Douglas Fowler, Lauren Elizabeth Fowler, Dalton Cole Fowler; and one great-grandchild, Gunner Slade Brewington.Other than his parents and wife, Doug was preceded in death by a daughter, Draxie Lynell Fowler; four sisters, Irene Fowler Porter, Louise Fowler Lipe, Margaret Fowler Burns, May Etta Fowler Brewer; seven brothers, John Coleman Fowler, James Robert "Bob" Fowler, Miles Bailey Fowler, Mitchell Angelo Fowler, Rupert Madison Fowler, Billy Wray Fowler, and Harry Pratt Fowler.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be sent to Eureka Private Cemetery, c/o Charlie Baker, 3129-A Bell Road, Courtland, MS 38620
