Rodney E. Vreeland, age 92, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Bright Glade Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Rodney was born on July 26, 1929 to the late William Langford and Marjorie Matilda Griswold Vreeland in Troy, New York. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. During his civilian career, Rodney worked for a number of architectural and engineering firms in a variety of capacities. In 1994 he retired from Allen and Hoshall as manager of the specifications department. In earlier years, he was active in the Batesville Lions club and attended Graceland Christian Church in Southaven. He was also an emeritus member of the Memphis Chapter of the Construction Specification Institute. For the last several years he served as a board member for the Sardis Lake Community Water Association.
His memory will be most cherished by the family he leaves behind which includes his daughter, Terry J. Vreeland of Memphis, TN and adopted daughter Kristina Marie Vreeland Brock of Palm City, FL; one sister, June Leach of Kingston, NH; grandchildren, Rebecca Jeannine Proctor, John Bryan Danielson, Jason Elliot Kidd, Joshua Wade Archer; and great-grandchildren, Krystyn Nicole Diamond Whaley, Tyler Brandon Hunter Whaley, Braden Rhyse Proctor, and James Bryson Danielson.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Wilson Vreeland; two daughters, Lisa Ann Vreeland and Nancy Carol Vreeland Kidd.
He and his dog Squirt were beloved by many in the community and he will be sorely missed by a host of family members, friends, and Squirt.
