Peggy Ann Walters, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019 at Belmont Village Care home in Memphis, TN after a long illness. Funeral services will be held on January 19, 2019 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Milton Whatley officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Sardis, MS. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.
Peggy was born in Duncan, MS on October 3, 1939 to Monell and Lonzo Bowman. She grew up in Coahoma County where she attended Sunflower School. After Peggy moved to Memphis, TN in the early sixties, she met and married the love of her life, Arthur (Art) Walters. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, dancing, and watching her favorite football team, the Ole Miss Rebels.
Peggy was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.
She leaves behind her husband, Art Walters of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Linda Ellis (Ken) of Batesville, MS and Mary Jo Mooneyham (Bobby) of Richland, MS; two step-daughters, Barbara Price (Keith) of Memphis, TN and Elizabeth Reams (Lane) of Nashville, TN; and 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Evan, John, Sarah, and Annie; several cousins, nieces, and nephews, numerous friends, and her 4 cats.
Those loved ones who passed before her include her parents, Monell and Lonzo Bowman; two sisters, Cathryn "Kit-Kat" Bowman and Betty Lou McKeller; and 3 brothers, Frank Bowman, E.L. Bowman, and Alvin Bowman.
The family would like to thank Reverend Milton Whatley, Compassus Premier Care Hospice, and the staff at Belmont Village Care Home.
