Norman Hughie Bland, age 82, passed away peacefully after a short illness at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning, October 13, 2018, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends Friday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Wells Funeral Home. Mr. Hal Johnson and Mr. Ed Casteel will be officiating the services. The interment will follow in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS.
Born to William "Bill" Bland and Alva Burchfield Bland in Dublin, MS on July 1, 1936, Hughie grew up in Locke Station and graduated from Marks High School.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for approximately four years and was stationed in Okinawa and in San Angelo, TX. He later made his home in Batesville, MS and was employed as a butcher and head of the meat departments for Maddux Leadway and Larson Big Star Groceries in Batesville, MS.
Hughie was a member of the Central Academy Church of Christ in Batesville, MS, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of thirteen years, Faye McClenic Bland, as well as, step-daughter, Linette Walters and her two daughters, Jessica and Mackenzie, and great-granddaughter, Naomi; step-son Jim Brewer and his son, J.B. Brewer. Hughie leaves one daughter, Lisa Gail Legge (Jim) of Grenada, MS and two granddaughters, Emily Lauren and Kaitlyn Alyssa; one brother, Cecil Bland (Carol) of Pope, MS; sister, Bernita Miller of Jackson, MS. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, as well as, a large number of "greats" who enjoyed having Uncle Hughie around.
Hughie was preceded in death by mother and father, Bill and Alva Bland; brothers, John, Bedford and Jerrald; sister, Juanita Morrow and step-son, Robert Brewer.
