Miriam Hawkins Herring

February 7, 1942 — April 29, 2018

Miriam Hawkins “MiMi” Herring, age 76, passed away Sunday evening, April 29, 2018, at Providence Assisted Living Home in Batesville, MS. MiMi was the widow of the late Leslie Herring.

A Requiem Mass will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como, MS, where she was a parishioner.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 prior to the service. 

MiMi was born February 7, 1942 in Memphis, TN to the late Howard Edmond and Lillian Saunders Hawkins. She was the former owner of Gifts and Things in Sardis, MS for many years before becoming a homemaker and taking care of her family. MiMi loved her sunsets and her hometown of Como, MS. She didn’t begin playing tennis until later in life, but she enjoyed it for many years during the time she lived in Sardis. MiMi had a special eye for decorating, and a “Green Thumb” that she was very proud of, but her greatest love was her great-grandchildren.

MiMi’s loving memory will be cherished by her granddaughter, Emily Herring Rivers of Batesville, MS; two great-grandchildren, Ella Rivers of Batesville, MS, Sims Rivers of Batesville, MS; niece, Carol Hawkins Darby (William) of Olive Branch, MS; two nephews, Howard Hawkins (Molly) of Batesville, MS, Buddy Hawkins of Batesville, MS.

In addition to her husband and parents, MiMi was preceded in death by her two children, Paula Herring and Hal Herring, and also one brother, Sims Howard Hawkins.

The family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory,  make those to the Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 311 Main St., Como, MS 38619 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
