December 26, 1930 — March 6, 2019

Mildred Gordon, age 88, passed away March 6, 2019 at the Panola Medical Center in Batesville, MS.

There will be a memorial service for Mildred on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS, followed by a catered reception here at the Funeral Home as well.

Mildred was born December 26, 1930 to the late Virginia McMinn Anthony and Joseph Oyett Thompson in Tallahatchie County, MS. Her parents had 13 children all together.

She married Albert Sidney Gordon when she was 19 and their first home was in Mississippi. Albert entered the military and during this time, they traveled to many places. Texas became home when Albert retired from the military. Albert and Mildred had 3 children, Ricky, Reggie, and Kerry. Ricky, their first born, passed away at only 3 months old. His death had a deep impact on Mildred. The couple lived and raised Reggie and Kerry in Texas where they both still reside. Mildred and Albert moved to Minnesota when Albert's job changed. They were there for 10 years. When Albert retired from work they moved back to Texas until about 5 years ago when they returned to Mississippi to live their final years in a family home with their siblings.

Throughout her life, Mildred became a very accomplished seamstress, making some beautiful clothes for her daughter, Kerry. She was very proud of the fact that she had learned to swim, because of none of her sisters could swim, just her brothers. Mildred and Albert loved to square dance. She loved family get-togethers such as BBQ's, egg hunts, dirty santa, and family reunions.

Those left behind to cherish her loving memory include her children, Kerry Maloney (Mark), and Reginald "Reggie" Gordon both of Texas; 5 sisters, Joann Sharp of Duck Hill, MS, Nina Hays (George) of Carrollton, MS, Faye Clark of Pope, MS, Jetty Whitsell of Pope, MS, and Mavis King of Yelm, WA; one brother, Corley Thompson of Scobey, MS; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her infant child, she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sidney Gordon; 6 siblings, Mary Mobly, Daisy Bell Joyner, Draper Mae Odom, Joseph P. Thompson, Hilda Russell, and Dotsy Joyner.
