Michael Wayne Gaines

Michael Wayne Gaines, age 38, passed away Monday morning, July 27, 2020 at the North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.

A graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Eureka Private Cemetery near Courtland, MS.

Michael was born on December 19, 1981 to Cecil Godejohn and Deborah McCart Huff in Shreveport, Louisiana. He honorably served his country in United States Army and the Mississippi National Guard. While Michael was in the Army he served a tour in Iraq where he was injured. Since Michael’s injury, he has enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a support dog, named Beera, who was always at his side. Michael also worked as a diesel mechanic. He was always helping people out in any way that he could. Michael will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his father, Cecil Godejohn of Mt. Pleasant, TX and his mother, Debbie McCart Huff of Talco, TX; his adopted mother, Charlotte Banks of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Sabrina Booth of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Debbie Raye Clayton of Tishomingo, MS; two brothers, Daniel Gaines of Batesville, MS and Cecil Godejohn, Jr. of Keithville, LA; and his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Bailey of Bois City, LA.

He preceded in death by his adopted father, Danny Gaines; two sisters, Jennifer Hayes and Brandi Smith; paternal grandfather, James F. Godejohn; maternal grandparents, Loraine Scott and Walter McCart; adopted paternal grandparents, Virginia and Carson Helms; and adopted maternal grandparents, Samuel Earl Little and Rita Stansberry.
