Mavis Avenelle Marquis (Rodgers), 89, of Walls, MS, formerly of Batesville, MS, entered into eternal peace on June 1, 2018, at her home in Walls, MS.
The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS, 340 Highway 35 North, on Wednesday evening, June 6, 2018, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The funeral service will be in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Ed Temple of the First United Methodist Church officiating with interment to follow in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS.
Mavis was born in Mississippi on May 2, 1929. She had retired from Johnson & Johnson. Her family was her life. She would do anything she could for her children and grand babies. She enjoyed family get togethers, shopping for bargains, Elvis Presley music, her new car, rose bushes, her trips with her husband and church groups in Batesville, MS, and watching her birds and squirrels on her bird feeders.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, George and Estelle (Griffin) Rodgers; her late husband of 65 years, Homer L. Marquis; two daughters, Connie Marquis Fonseca and Jeannie Marquis Hughes.
Mavis is survived by her son, Homer L. Marquis, Jr. (Janet) of Walls, MS; daughter, Anita Marquis of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Hazel Horn (Alexander) and Jane Hannah; ten grandchildren; Aaron (Helen) Marquis, Shaunna Marquis (Brett), Richard Marquis, Julie (Jamie) McCullough, Lynette Hall (John), Deanna, also known as "Sissy" (Paul) Peterson, Russell (Becki) Cave, Jeff (Michelle) Moody, Twyla Moon (Christine); seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends and her fury companion, Bear.
She will be deeply missed.
