Maurice Ellis

Maurice “Sonny” Ellis, age 89, passed away Friday morning, September 14, 2018 at his home in Crowder, Mississippi. He was the widower of the late Margaret Ruth Ellis.

Funeral services for Sonny will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow at Crowder Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Saturday evening, September 15, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, Mississippi.

Sonny was born November 27, 1928 in Quitman County to the late Ora Parrish and Joe Frank Ellis. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church. Sonny worked at Bunge in Marks, MS for many years. He enjoyed singing, working in his garden and shop, and being outdoors. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.

Those left behind to cherish his loving memory include his son, Dexter Ellis, Sr. of Crowder, MS.; his grandchildren, Dexter Ellis, Jr. of Crowder, MS., Scarlett Keeton of Crowder, MS., and Phillip Ellis of Sarah, MS.; great grandchildren, Ashley Ellis, Corbin Fowler, Lexi Fowler, Morgan Ellis, and Eva Ellis; and 5 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ruth Ellis.
