Mattie Bell Moore

Mattie Bell Moore, 95, of Peoria, IL, formerly of Marquette Heights, IL, Crowder, MS and Batesville, MS passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Manor Court in Peoria, IL.

She was born June 12, 1929, in Oxford, MS to Iverson Hargis and Ida Greta Tramel Blair.

Mattie married the love of her life, Hubert Clinton “H.C.” Moore II on July 29, 1946, in Hernando, MS; he preceded her in death on November 28, 1999. Her parents; siblings, Leo (Ruth) Blair, Ike “I.O.” (Dovie) Blair, Clara (Ronald) Ellis, John Blair; grandson-in-law, Joseph Abts and great-grandson, Sam Moyer also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Hubert Clinton “Clint” (Kathleen) Moore III, Debbie (Fred) Schindler; grandchildren, Tammy Abts, Brett (Ursula) Moore, Tanya (Keplan) LaSota, Shannon (Jason) Blankenship, Nealee (Jeremey) Nims and great-grandchildren, Ryan Abts, Brenner Abts, Ian Lister, Cameron Lister, Van Moyer, Macey LaSota, Dylan LaSota, Jaylen Blankenship, Sam Blankenship, Aris Nims, Sirus Nims and many extended family members and friends.

Mattie loved her family fiercely and loved spending time with them traveling, having large family gatherings and a good fish fry. Mattie loved the Lord and enjoyed saying grace and singing hymns. She made sure no one ever left her house without eating plenty. She enjoyed her corn dogs and milkshakes and doing laundry, she insisted on freshening up your clothes as soon as you got to her house to stay. Her reassuring smile, loving hugs and heavy-handed pats on the back will be greatly missed. “Stay sweet”

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a service following at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, IL. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Batesville, MS at Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS is assisting with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her name.
