Water Valley, Mississippi. Margaret "Marguerite" Elizabeth Groves Hunsicker passed quietly into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 609 North Main St., Water Valley, MS 38965. The inurnment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley, MS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born in Water Valley to Marvin Braxton Groves and Carrie Lou Rhodes Groves on November 3, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Herbert Hunsicker, Sr., and her three sisters, Frances Groves Myers, Mary Nell Groves Gurner, and Joan Groves, as well as brothers-in-law John Myers and Jack Gurner, and son-in-law, Hudson Still.
She is survived by her son, Dr. John H. Hunsicker (Lynda) and her daughter Susan Joyce Hunsicker Still, as well as three grandchildren, Dr. Walker F. Hunsicker, Carrie E. Hunsicker, Brandy Farlow Russell, one step-granddaughter, Amy E. Eifling, and four great grandchildren.
She graduated from Water Valley High School in 1942, and was likely the last surviving member of her class. A member of the "Greatest Generation" she served during WWII as a civilian secretary at the POW camp at Camp McCain in Grenada. There she met a young soldier from Ohio. They were married after the war and celebrated their 52nd anniversary before his death. For most of her life she was an active homemaker. She was devoted to the Episcopal church in Water Valley, a lifetime member of the Altar Guild until health issues prevailed.
