Margaret was born July 2, 1939, in Yazoo City, MS to the late William Herman Saxton and Annette McRaven Saxton. She was a longtime resident of Batesville, MS and a life long member of First United Methodist of Batesville.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert (Bob) Forrest Haltom, of Batesville. Her greatest blessings were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Bill Haltom (Cathy) of Holcomb, Robin Haltom Hudson ( Rick) of Batesville, and Saxton Haltom (Jessica) of Olive Branch. To her grandchildren: Drew Haltom (Laura) of Memphis, TN, Taylor Haltom (Morgan) or Elmhurst, IL, Matthew Hudson of Batesville, and Coleman Saxton Haltom of Olive Branch, she was lovingly known as Bubba. And her legacy continues with 3 great-grandchildren: Graham Robert, Judith Rose, and Henry Alan (Hank).
She also leaves her two sisters, Anne Trusty of Batesville and Olivia Schleicher (Jim) of Nashville and her dear cousin, Margaret Pepper Grantham of Oxford and a special aunt, Betty Place of Batesville.
She graduated from Mississippi University for Women with a B.S degree in English and went on to teach school after she and Bob married and moved to Hattiesburg, MS. After having children, she devoted her time to being a mother. And when the family moved back to Batesville and bought a family retail clothing store, Shackeroff’s, she became a business owner. Margaret was very involved with local charities and loved baking her signature caramel cakes and delivering to the police and fire departments. She enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted many family and friend gatherings at their house. When football season arrived, you could count on her not missing her beloved MS State Bulldogs game. In their retirement years, she and Bob traveled around the United States and Canada. One of their last excursions was a road trip to Alaska. She also enjoyed playing golf, gardening, playing the piano, playing Solitaire, and in the last few years she found great enjoyment participating in a Fantasy Football with her sons, grandsons, and other family members (her title “BubbaDog”). She will lovingly be remembered by other family members and many friends.
