Louise Fonteine Carter

April 15, 1935 — April 1, 2018

Louise Ann Fonteine Carter, age 82, passed away at her home in Memphis, TN on March 31, 2018. Louise was born April 15, 1935 to the late Lamont Earl Fonteine and Pearl Ann Schellenberg Fonteine in Milwaukee, WI. She was fondly known as “Wuwu,” her grandmother moniker for over 30 years. Her generosity and love of family were the foundations of how she lived her life. After raising her children as a stay-at-home mother Louise completed her Masters in Social Work and built her career as a social worker at the UT Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities where she specialized in play therapy and teaching mentally handicapped mothers to care for their babies. Louise was an avid reader, a master puzzle builder and fan of any Panda Cam. Her happiest place on earth was Upper Nemahbin Lake in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Louise was the widow of the late Dr. James Clyde Carter former Chairman of the Chemistry Department at the University of Memphis. She is survived by two children, Ann Verlydia Burgess and James Fonteine Carter both of Memphis, TN.; three grandsons, Brandon Fonteine Carter, Carter Brennan Burgess, and Shaun Montgomery Burgess; two great grandchildren, Dorothy Adeline Carter and James Fonteine Carter. A private service for the family will be held in Milwaukee, WI. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the BrightFocus Foundation for Alzheimer’s research.https://www.brightfocus.orghttps://www.brightfocus.org/sites/default/files/2017_adr_yearbook_final_web.pdf
