Leonard H. "Bud" Locke, Sr., age 82, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford, MS.
Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time Saturday.
Bud was born on November 23, 1940 in Marks, MS to the late James Leonard Locke and Mary Louise Hannah Locke. Bud was a farmer and landowner who very much enjoyed working on the farm during his lifetime. He also enjoyed watching western movies. Most of all he loved to be around family, and particularly his precious grandchildren. Anyone who knew Bud knew he loved a long conversation and an ice-cold coke. Bud was a member of Locke Station Baptist Church where he was the former Sunday School Director and music leader.
Bud was also a grocery store owner and butcher of 3 stores at one time in his younger years. He loved to fix things. When he got where he couldn't do it himself, he would sit there and tell you how to do it. Bud also hated to hire anything done because he could always do it himself and do it better and cheaper! He would get mad if we hired something done when we could have saved that money and done it ourselves. There wasn't anything that he couldn't do. He was a man of much knowledge and know how.
Bud loved driving a tractor, combine, backhoe or whatever needed to be driven as long as he could get on it, he would run it as long as was needed. In his later years, he like to ride around and check out what was going on at his U-Haul store and on his farm and always wanted to help if he could. He always extended a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia King Locke, and two sisters; Mary Wilson and Jimmie Jones.
The family he leaves behind to cherish his loving memory includes his daughter, Bena Louise Locke Cullom (David) of Magnolia, MS; sons, Leonard H. Locke, Jr. (Marie) of Batesville, MS, James Edward Locke (Phyllis) of Marks, MS, and Stephen A. Locke of Batesville, MS; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
