Lee Scott Scruggs, age 53, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Merit Health River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.
Lee was born on January 27, 1970 to Dorothy Nell Land Scruggs and the late Kenneth L. Scruggs in Batesville, MS. He was a retired inspector for MDOT and worked for Williams Engineering in Oxford, MS. Lee enjoyed being outside whether he was tending to his hummingbird feeders, bushhogging, or doing yard work. He liked to grill, play cards, and watch sports on TV, but especially loved to watch Ole Miss football. Lee had an array of tools and a great interest in his family history. He was a devoted caregiver to his mother and a fun-loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, whom he considered as his own children. Lee was of the Methodist faith.
The family he leaves behind includes his mother, Nell Land Scruggs of Batesville, MS; his brother, Steve Scruggs of Batesville, MS; two nieces, Ellorei Scruggs Jones (Gunner) and Anna Scruggs Oates (Adam); one nephew, Steven Tyler Scruggs (Courtney); two great nieces, Ollie Oates and Madeleine Scruggs; two great nephews, Asher Jones and James Thomas Oates; two aunts, Jane Land Baker and Jean Land Hentz both of Courtland, MS; two uncles, Dennis Land and Wayne Land both of Batesville, MS; and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family request any memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
