Kenneth B. Magness

Kenneth Bradford (K.B.) Magness, age 90, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019, surrounded by his family at his home in Batesville, MS.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Monday, April 1, 2019, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.

K.B. was born October 14, 1928 in Calhoun County, MS to the late J.W. and Lucille Denton Magness. Upon moving to Batesville in 1956, he and his wife have been very active and faithful members of the First Baptist Church. K.B. had a long and honored career in law enforcement for forty-seven years. From 1956 to 1986, he served the State of Mississippi as a Highway Patrolman, and the last eight years of service was as a Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from the Highway Patrol, K.B. went on to serve as a Federal Court Security Officer at the Federal Building in Oxford, MS for seventeen more years. He was an avid gardener, who could always be found in his garden during the summer.

K.B.’s kind and loving memory will be cherished by his wife of sixty-five years, Maggie Jo Edwards Magness of Batesville, MS; daughter, Jackie Mills of Batesville, MS; three sisters, Lucy Jackson of Southaven, MS, Ruth McGougan of Huntsville, AL, Virginia McGougan of Huntsville, AL; brother, J.W. Magness, Jr. of Senatobia, MS; three grandchildren, T.K. Henry (Chris) of Batesville, MS, Rachel Kirkland (Dan) of Batesville, MS, Jeremy Magness of Batesville, MS; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Along with his parents, K.B. was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Magness and two sisters, Jane Hardin and Alma West.
