JW Magness, Jr.

JW Magness, Jr., age 85, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, MS. He was the husband of Victoria Magness of Senatobia.

JW was born October 9, 1933 to the late JW Magness, Sr. and Lucille Denton Magness in Slate Springs, MS. JW proudly served his county in the U.S. Army. During his term in the military he was a paratrooper and was privileged to be a part of the Army Special Forces Green Beret unit. The last eight years he was a member of the MS National Guard. Following his service to his country he began his career with AT&T where he was a switchman. This career served him well and he eventually retired from the business. JW was a simple man who enjoyed gardening, he became quite an expert at making jams and jellies from the produce he grew. Later in life he loved to read and work on crossword puzzles.

In addition to his parents, JW was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Harden, Alma West; and one brother, KB Magness.

JW is survived by his wife, Victoria Foster Magness of Senatobia; two daughters, Judith Alicia Sides (Dennis) of Harmontown, Lisa Rebecca Magness of Senatobia; two sons, Jorge Alfredo Magness (Pam) of Anchorage, AK., James Isaac Magness (Joy) of Coldwater; three sisters, Lucy Jackson of Southaven, Ruth McGougan of Huntsville, AL., Virginia McGougan also of Huntsville, AL.; four grandchildren, Dennis W. Sides, Jr., Rebecca D. Smith, Samantha A. Magness, James Eli Magness; and five great grandchildren, Brayden Sides, Lucas W. Sides, Lucy R. Sides, Fallon A. Smith, and Ezra T. Smith.
