Judith Ann Cook

February 13, 1943 — July 17, 2019

Judith Ann "Judy" Cook, age 76, passed away peacefully at her home near Charleston on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.

There will be a memorial service and celebration of life held for Judy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with visitation beginning at 1:00 prior to the service. Rev. Joe May will officiate.

Judy was born February 13, 1943, the youngest of four children, to the late Jim Porter Cook and Lucille Crenshaw in Tallahatchie County, MS. Judy grew up outside of Charleston along with her three older brothers on the Denman’s Farm. She, along with her family, moved to Missouri during her teen years. Judy graduated from Lilbourn High School in Lilbourn, MO. Following high school, the Cook family moved back to Tallahatchie County where Judy took a job in medical records at Tallahatchie General Hospital. From there she followed Dr. Lewis to Charleston Clinic where she worked as the office manager. Upon the clinics closing, Judy went to work for FHA in Batesville where she remained for 15 years until retirement in December of 2008. Following retirement, she enjoyed being outside working in her yard with her flowers and plants. She held a special place in her heart for her animals, always being a mother to her favorite dog and at times several cats.

Judy was a Christian woman who loved her God. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston. Although Judy never married, she was always surrounded by family and her special group of devoted friends who loved her so.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rex and Gene Cook and one nephew Ronnie Cook.

Judy is survived by one brother, Jack Cook (Linda) of Collinsville; 3 nieces and 3 nephews who adored her; her godson Brett Harrington of Oxford; very special friends, Trish and Tommy Harrington of Charleston, and Jordan Harrington (Carrie) of Alexandria, LA;  and her beloved german shepard Ilsa, who has been adopted by a family member as Judy would have wished.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
