Juanita D. Newman

Juanita D. Newman, age 93, passed away late Thursday evening, November 22, 2018 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 25, 2018, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery near Enid, MS

Velma Juanita Davie Newman was born July 10, 1925 in Farrell, MS. She lived in Memphis, TN most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Alfred Davie and Virgil Wolfe Thorsen. Also, preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James Charles Newman Sr. and daughter-in-law Frances Mehan Newman. Juanita worked as the Manager of Top Value Stamp Store on Union Ave, in accounting at Cleo Wrap where she retired, and as a sales clerk for Dillard’s Department Store at Hickory Ridge Mall. She is survived by her sons, James C Newman Jr. (Melanie), Alfred Davie Newman (Jean), and daughter Sherrie Fay Newman Williams (Mike). Juanita had eight Grandsons, nineteen Great-Grand children, and one Great-Great Grandson. She enjoyed her recipe book collection and read them as they were novels. Juanita loved trying new recipes and made the best chocolate pie ever.
