Johnie Keen Mason, age 79, passed away Thursday morning, January 2, 2020 at The Blake Assisted Living Facility in Oxford, Mississippi.
A memorial service for Mrs. Mason will be held at 2:30 on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Black Jack Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm prior to the service. Reverend Dr Ron Wilson, Reverend Dr. Don Howie and Reverend Fletcher Moorman will officiate the service. Wells Funeral Home of Batesville has charge.
Johnie was born January 7, 1940 to the late Elvie James and Eloise Herring Keen in Marks, Mississippi. Johnie was a former employee of Panola Mills in Batesville, Mississippi. After the mill closed, Johnie attended nursing school at Northwest Mississippi Community College to earn her LPN license. Johnie was a lifelong resident of the Black Jack Community and attended Black Jack Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader and was active in The Women’s Circle.
Mrs. Mason leaves 2 daughters, Sonya Mason Edwards (Mark) of Pascagoula, MS and Karen Mason Kitchens (James) of Corpus Christi, TX, three sisters, Linda Keen Tutor and Barbara Keen of Batesville, MS, and Marie Keen Sewell of Cleveland, MS behind to cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents Johnie was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Mason, and one sister, Diane Keen.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Blake in Oxford, Mississippi as well as the staff of Encompass Hospice for the loving care they provided Johnie during the last year.
