John Robert Robertson passed surrounded by loved ones at his home in the early morning hours of August 27, 2023, at the age of 80. He will be missed greatly for the caring and kind heart that he showed to all. John enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
John was born on January 25, 1943, in Batesville, MS, to John B. Robertson and Catherine Sanders Roberston of Batesville, MS. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1963 and attended Northwestern Community College. He joined the military service branch of the Army as a military policeman and trained service dogs headed to war in Vietnam. For 31 years John worked for BellSouth. He was a longstanding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.
John married Vera Ann Robertson on June 29, 1984; they were married for 39 years. His life will always be cherished by those who loved him. John is survived by his wife, Ann Robertson of Batesville, MS, his brother Roy Robertson of Batesville, MS, his sister Nancy Turberville (Don) of Brandon, MS, and Jewel Stewart of Biloxi, MS, children Keely Robertson of Norman, Oklahoma, Matt Robertson (Lori) of Easton, GA, Everett Robertson (Beth) of Italy, Cherie Grist (Monte) of Alexander, AR, and Steven Shackelford (Suzanne) of Ocean Springs, MS. In addition to his children, John is mourned by 7 beautiful grandchildren, Taylor Roberston Vest (Jonathan), Laura Robertson, Cole Robertson, Riley Robertson, Hailey Robertson, Liana Grist, and Dash Shackelford, and one great grandchild, Ella Jaye Mullis. John was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bill Robertson.
The funeral service will be Wednesday August 30, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home at 340 MS Highway 35 N, Batesville, MS. Dr. Paul Middleton from Calvary Baptist Church will officiate the service. Viewing will be from 12:30 to 2:00 and the service will follow immediately at 2:00. Pallbearers are Johnny B. Robertson, Dustin Robertson, Lee Masterson, William Masterson, Gaines Baker, and Brennan Baker.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s honor to St. Jude’s Hospital or to Calvary Baptist Church.
