John C. Oates, age 74, passed away Saturday morning, June 27, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford, MS.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope, MS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

John was born, July 25, 1945, in Oak Ridge, TN to the late Marion Oliver and Edna Morrison Oates. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and through out his adult life, John work as a forklift driver. John could always be found reading and studying his Bible. He enjoyed the simple things in life and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.

John's caring and loving memory will be missed most by his brother, Jimmy Dale Oates of Pope, MS; three sisters, Faye Oates Smith of Memphis, TN, Cherline Oates Valdez of Jamestown, CA, Charline Oates Stovall of Jamestown, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion O. Oates, Jr and Bill Oates.
