Jimmie Lee Smith Thompson, age 93, passed away Monday, March 17, 2025 at her home in Batesville, MS.
Funeral services for Jimmie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Black Jack Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Jimmie was born on July 3, 1931 in Panola County, MS. She was a devoted insurance agent, beginning her career at Caldwell Insurance before making her mark at Ronnie Darby State Farm, where she became well-known and well-liked by her clients and colleagues.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jimmie was affectionately known as "Ninnie" to her grandchildren and family. She embraced her role as a matriarch with warmth and enthusiasm. She was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville, where she served diligently as the church clerk and as a Sunday school teacher.
Jimmie's hobbies and interests brought her immense joy. She loved shopping, crocheting, and spending time in her beautiful flower garden, often canning the fruits of her labor to share with others. The kitchen was her domain, and she found profound happiness in cooking for her family and friends, particularly during the holidays. These moments became cherished gatherings filled with laughter and love.
Jimmie's contributions to her family, friends, and community will endure as a testament to the life she led. Her kindness and spirit will be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Jimmie is welcomed into Heaven by her husband, William Jake Thompson, Jr.; one daughter, Sara Thompson York; one son-in-law, Mike Wilson; her mother, Annabell Glover Smith Brewer; and her father, Van Wells Smith; and one grandson, Robert Lee York, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Thompson Wilson of Batesville, MS; her son-in-law, Robert Lee “Bobby” York, Sr. of Batesville, MS; three grandchildren, Alicia Wilson Capwell (Brandon), Abbey Wilson McMahan (Richard), and Rebecca York Bell (Marvin); and four great grandchildren, Leslie Anne Bass (B), Robert Walton Bell, Katie Beth Capwell, and Allie Wilson Capwell.
