Jim G. Smith, Jr.

Jim G. Smith, Jr. 67 of King George, VA passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Born in Hot Springs, AR., he was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering. In addition, he earned a Masters of computer science and law degree for the University of Virginia. He served in the United States Navy for six years and attained the rank of Lieutenant. Jim was an active member of St. John’s Church of Hanover-with-Brunswick Parish, where he played the organ for over 20 years. He had been a volunteer mediator at the Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center for several years and helped with the Professional Mediators of Virginia after retiring from the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Dahlgren. He also was a faithful volunteer at the APP Shop. Jim loved his GOD, his fellow man and was a “servant disciple”.

Survivors include his son, Charles Sutton; his sister, Laurie Monteith and several nieces and nephews that adored him. There will be a memorial service held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Batesville Presbyterian Church followed by inurnment at Magnolia Cemetery.
