Janice McCown Barnes, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.
A graveside service will be held on 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Magnolia Cemetery with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home prior to the graveside service from 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Janice was born on February 16, 1943 to the late Doris “Bud” McCown and Lorene “Polly” Blakely McCown in Sardis, MS. She started out working as a hairdresser at Beauty Land and then went on to work at the First United Methodist Church Daycare for 22 years. She enjoyed being with children, especially her grandchildren who were so dear to her. After retirement she loved to read, sew, cook, and feed and watch her hummingbirds. Janice was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville, where she enjoyed the Explorers Bible study group.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael L. Barnes and her son, Kevin Barnes.
The family left behind to cherish her precious memory include her two daughters, Amy Barnes and Jennifer Barnes Aucoin both of Batesville; her daughter-in-law, Kim Barnes of Oxford; 6 grandchildren, Joseph Aucoin, Jenna Aucoin, Tori Aucoin, Tristian Aucoin, Katie Barnes, and Chase Barnes.
