James Henry Russell

James Henry Russell, age 70, passed away Saturday morning, February 25, 2023 at the North MS Specialty Hospital in Batesville, MS.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.

James was born on July 24, 1952 to the late Marlin Russell, Sr. and Nellie Mooneyham Russell in Clarksdale, MS. James, also known by “Shorty”, was a hard worker and had several different jobs throughout his life time. He worked as a farm hand and then as factory worker for Panola Mills. Before retirement, he went to truck driving for nearly 20 years. James was the kind of man who could not sit around, he was always piddling with something. James enjoyed building things whether he was welding or woodworking. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and travel with his family. James was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

The family he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Cindy Russell; his two sons, James Russell (Gina) and Chris Russell (Beth); his siblings, Larry Russell, Juanita Parks, Glenda Clark, Brenda Brock, and Shirley Stewart; his grandchildren, Tiffany Russell, Hannah Russell, Ali Red (Joseph), Chloe Booker (Keuntae), Logan Russell (Della), Gini Helton, Cole Helton, Kadin Helton, and Graiden Russell; his great grandchildren, Wynnee Red, Rowan Booker, Archie Russell, Khloe Pegues, Makayla Russell, Jakaylee Young, Karlie Young, and Kylee Young.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 9 siblings, Marlin Lee Russell, Janet Russell, Marlin Russell, Jr., Jimmy Russell, Ruby Roberson, Billy Dale Russell, Lucille Davis, Wilma Hutchinson, and Thelma Jean Russell.
