James W. Horton, age 73, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at his home in Oakland, MS.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada, MS.
James was born on August 19, 1951 in Batesville, MS to the late James Pritchard Horton and Mary Janelle Doolittle. He devoted most of his career to dairy farming, a profession he embraced wholeheartedly. His love for animals and agriculture was further supported by his education at Mississippi State University, where he studied Dairy and Animal Science. Later in life, he transitioned to working at the former Heatcraft in Grenada, MS, where he continued to make meaningful contributions.
Outside of his professional endeavors, James found joy in gardening and hunting, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature and take pleasure in the simple joys of life. His dedication to both his work and his hobbies reflected his strong character and love for the outdoors.
James is survived by his two daughters, Heather Horton Brewer and Anna Horton both of Pope, MS; his sister, Mary Ann Odom of Pope, MS; one grandson, James Michael Brewer of Pope, MS; niece, Christy Haynes of Pope, MS; and his nephew, David Odom (Logan) of Batesville, MS.
