James Gray Hailey

James Gray "Jim" Hailey, age 82, of Pope, MS., passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis TN. Friday, August 25, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 27, 2017 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope, MS. The family will be receiving friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon. Rev. Derrick Simmons will be caring for the family with his comforting words. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include, Dustin Patton, Nicholas Patton, Jeremy Hailey, Dillon Yancey, Chris Watson, Tripp Baker and Stephen Sanders.Mr. Hailey was born June 9, 1935 in Michigan City, MS to the late William C. and Annie Gray Hailey. He was a retired farmer who worked in all aspects of the farm. Mr. Hailey's family described him as a, "jack of all trades" when it came to his occupation. He attended Victory Baptist Church with his late wife, Ella Mae Alexander Hailey, near Courtland, MS.He leaves behind a loving family, which includes, two daughters, Brenda Hailey Sanders of Batesville, MS, Joyce Hailey Patton of Pope, MS; two sons, James T. Hailey of Pope, MS, Raymond R. Hailey  of Pope, MS; four sisters, Elsie Holloway of Sunflower, MS, Nita Steward of Sunflower, MS, Susie Johnson of Courtland, MS, Cathy Johnson of Jackson, MS; five brothers, W.C. Hailey, Jr. of West Memphis, AR, Lester Hailey of Collierville, TN, Howard Hailey of Holly Springs, MS, Ray Hailey of New Orleans, LA, Sam Hailey of Florence, MS; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.Other than his wife and parents, Mr. Hailey was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Hailey Watson; three sisters, Jane Seals, Mary Hunsucker, and Mammie Miller.
