James Robert Blackmon

Livestream of Funeral Service

James R. Blackmon, 87, of Batesville, MS, went home to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Monday January 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. 

Funeral services for Mr. Blackmon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening, January 19, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also on Saturday one hour prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home. 

Mr. Blackmon was born April 2, 1936 in Cromwell, AL to the late Samuel Thomas Blackmon and Effie Maude Pierce Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was an Electrical Technician for over 60 years. He was the owner of Blackmon TV in Batesville for over 45 years. Mr. Blackmon loved the Lord and was a founding member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Batesville where he served as a member for 48 years. Mr. Blackmon was currently a member of Goodway United Pentecostal Church in Locke Station.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackmon was preceded in death by two sisters, Clarice Blackmon Malone and Lisa Blackmon Lee, one grandson, Dwayne Seamster (Shannon), one great-grandson, Paul Duffy.

The family he leaves to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Martha Louise Gray Blackmon, of Batesville, MS, four children, Larry Blackmon (Linda), of Batesville, MS, Teresa Blackmon Tullos (Johnny Jr.), of Marks, MS, Sherry Blackmon Bryant (Robert), of Batesville, MS, and Angela Blackmon Hubbard (Kenneth), of Batesville, MS, one sister, Gloria Frost, of Gilbertown, AL, eleven grandchildren, Michael Blackmon (Jenny), April Rickels (Mark Jr.), Susan Tullos, John Tullos (Heather), Rebecca Umberger (Daniel), Karla Avalos (Josh), Anna Lewis (Nate), Rachel Bryant, Kim Duffy (Sean), Scott Seamster, 20  great-grandchildren, Price, Henry, Elisabeth, Joselyn, Joshua, Andrea, Lindsey, Gabriella, Josiah, Micah, Isabella, Khloe, Brennan, Grayson, Harrison, Karson, Daniel, Noah, Alex, and Vaughn. Mr. Blackmon also leaves two special cousins, Doris Davidson, of Snell, MS, and Jim Hendley, of Lenoir City, TN.

The family would like to extend great appreciation and thanks to Baptist Hospice for the impeccable care they provided in Mr. Blackmon’s final days. They would like to especially acknowledge their “angel” Stephanie for her exemplary care and compassion.
