Jack Franklin Phillips

Jack Franklin Phillips, age 71, passed away Monday morning, May 3, 2021 at Northwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale, MS.

Funeral services for Jack will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Marks Presbyterian Church in Marks, MS. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Marks Cemetery. Rev. Laurie Jones and Rev. Seth Still and Rev. Billy Spink will officiate.

Jack was born March 26, 1950 to Louie Nell Phillips and the late Jack Phillips in Grenada, MS. Jack was a retired English professor with 23 years of teaching at Delta State University and was well-loved among his students. He was a member of Marks Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. Jack was a phenomenal guitarist who played in several bands over 50+ years including The Dirt Merchants, Chance, Basic Boys, and The Remnants.

In addition to his father, Jack was preceded in death by one son; Jack Franklin “Jackson” Phillips, Jr.

The family he leaves behind to cherish his memory includes three sons, Joshua Franklin (Jana) Phillips of Madison, MS, Joseph Gramm (Anna Kathryn) Phillips of Clarksdale, MS, Jon Mason Phillips of Ft. Collins, CO.; his mother, Louie Nell Phillips Snyder of Calhoun, GA.; sister, Stephanie Gayle (Mike) Pritchard of Powder Springs, GA.; five grandchildren, Eloise Phillips, Edie Jane Phillips, Easton Phillips, Joseph Isaac Phillips, Elisabeth Kathryn Phillips; and nephew, Stephen (Bene’) Pritchard of Lilburn, GA.
