Henry "Sonny" Mayo, Jr.

Henry Mayo, Jr., better known as Sonny, age 89, entered into eternal rest early morning on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Quitman County Health & Rehab Center in Marks, Mississippi. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon. Interment will follow the service at Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw.

He was born on May 11, 1935 in Dundee, Mississippi to Guy Henry and Cora Mae Mayo. Sonny was a mill operator before retiring from Kentucky/Tennessee Clay Company in Crenshaw. He was a devoted family man and was known for his strong work ethic and a profound appreciation for the simple joys in life. He learned at an early age that working alongside his dad planting and harvesting farm crops was hard work, but gratifying. Sonny was an avid fisherman and sportsman and found immense joy and happiness on Sardis or Enid Lake. The most joy he found was always with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Cora Fair Mayo; his wife, Martha Mayo; brothers Bobby Mayo and Terry Mayo and sisters Sadie O'Neal, Ruth Prince, Edna Holliday and Sandra Tyler.

His memory will forever be cherished by his son and daughter, Gary and Becky Mayo of Brandon and sister, Shirley Westbrook of Southaven, MS. The legacy of their "Pappaw" will live on through his grandchildren, Erin and Matt Cliburn of Brandon, MS, and Eric and Amy Mayo of Petal, MS He will also be remembered by his great-grandchildren, Brody Cliburn, Scarlett Mayo, Mattie Rollins Cliburn, Baker Cliburn and John Mason Mayo.
