Helen Irene Mehan, age 86, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at her home in Pope, MS. Helen was the wife of Webster Mehan.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 12, 2018, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Sunday evening, November 11, 2018, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M.
Helen was born August 29, 1932 to the late Laundia Pearl Noel and Edgar Byars in Panola County, MS. During Helen's lifetime she was a homemaker. She was a member of Abundant Light Church where she taught Sunday School and served as the church secretary. She loved to cook, sew, and study God's word in her free time. She also had a love for animals, especially her cat. Helen was always wanting to take care of animals in need. She believed in treating everyone with love. If there was ever a need she was the first to step up and help out. Helen also had a beautiful singing voice and blessed many with her talent. She was a loving mother and "grandmama" to her children and grandchildren as well as a faithful wife for 68 years.
Those left behind to cherish her precious memory include her husband, Daniel Webster Mehan of Pope, MS; her two children, Loretta Jean Brent (David) of Pope, MS and Daniel Kenneth Mehan (Vivian) of Pope, MS; two sisters, Mary Hawkins of Pascagoula, MS and Dorothy Burke of Battle Creek, MI; 5 grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson (Kim) , Amanda Anderson (Eley), Daniel Mehan ( Karen), Matthew Mehan, Jennifer Mehan, and 7 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Byars and Laundia Pearl Noel Byars.
