Hazel Weed

Hazel Juanita Logan Weed, age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Panola Medical Center in Batesville, MS.

Hazel was born on February 22, 1928 to the late David Ben Logan and Ruthie Mae Huggins Logan in Coila, MS. Her career in life started out as an operator for a telephone company, then as a clerk for the Panola County Sheriff’s office. Hazel then became a certified bookkeeper. She worked for Southside Chevrolet and then finally for Heafner Motors where she was the head bookkeeper. Hazel had a passion for sewing, whether it was making clothes or curtains for her church. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Batesville.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Weed, Jr.; two brothers, Ben Frank Logan and Linn Logan; and three sisters, Marie Ladner, Gladys Randall, and Margaret Louise Reynolds.

Surviving family members include her two children, John D. Weed (Kathy) and Carol Weed Baucum (Steve) both of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren, Jason Weed (Macy), Adam Weed, Logan Weed, Wesley Baucum, and Stephanie Baucum Argo (Bishop); and three great grandchildren, Brianna Weed, Chance Weed, and Rosa Leigh Weed.

The family of Ms. Hazel will have a private family graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Batesville, 119 Panola Ave Batesville, MS 38606 or to the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 34 Bethlehem Church Road Winona, MS 38967.
