Hansel D. Pitts

Hansel D. Pitts, age 93, passed away at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston on April 9, 2019. He was the husband of Lena S. Pitts of Batesville.

Funeral services for Mr. Pitts will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Batesville First Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 prior to the service. Dr. Tommy Snyder will officiate. Committal service will be held at Cross Lawn Cemetery in Wynne AR. at 3:00 p.m. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Hansel was born September 21, 1925 to the late Arthur Buford Pitts and Bessie Foust Pitts in Poinsett County, AR. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Hansel was an active and faithful member of Batesville First Baptist Church.

The family he leaves behind to cherish his precious memory include his loving wife, Lena Stroupe Pitts of Batesville; one daughter, Robbie Pitts Willis (Randy) of Batesville; four sisters, Ruby Smith of Chattanooga, TN., Fonza Davis of Wynne, AR., Dyanne Foust (Leon) of Forest City, AR., and Brenda Totty of Cherry Valley, AR.; one grandchild, Ryan Willis of Jackson, MS.

In addition to his parents, Hansel was preceded in death by four brothers, Dallas “Jiggs” Pitts, Jim Pitts, Larry Pitts, and Bernard Pitts; and one sister, Ruth Pruitt.

Also holding a special place in his heart were his Aunt Novie and Uncle Grover Gaskins and their daughters, his “sister-cousins”, Wilma Bynum, Barbara Hamrick, Pat Dobson, Marcella Jackson, and Jo Baker.
