Dennis Alan Barnett, 69, of Byhalia, MS, passed away Sunday December 24, 2023 at his home.
The funeral service will be held Thursday December 28, 2023 at 12pm in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior, beginning at 10am. Interment will follow in Longtown Cemetery.
Dennis was born in Millington, TN on April 22, 1954 to parents Annis (Anne) and Joseph Barnett. He was the oldest of three children. He was the last surviving sibling. Graduated from Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, LA. Dennis enlisted into the Air Force and went to the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS base for specialized training in the armament systems field. He was the drummer for the Nuthun Fancy band. The band played multiple places while in South Dakota. Dennis absolutely LOVED playing the drums. He was on stage playing when his oldest son was born. He enjoyed all kinds of music. Dennis left South Dakota and came back to Mississippi and began his driving career as a long haul truck driver. He grew tired of being away from home and began driving locally for Whittington Paving out of Arlington, TN and retired from there. Dennis loved watching any show related to history. He also loved watching his New Orleans Saints play football, NHRA drag racing, NASCAR, deer and alligator hunting shows.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 27 years, Arlena, three sons, Shawn, Daniel and Doug Barnett, his step-son David Geyer, his grandchildren, Sebastian and Abby Barnett and Landan Geyer, his Aunts Becky Queen and Nancy Horn, sister-in-law Diana Barnett, brother-in-law Beecher Weatherall, nieces Jennifer Obermark, Jessica Glover, Lauren McClintock and nephew Jeremy Barnett. Great Uncle to Abby and Garrett Obermark, Caiden, Eli and Sylvia Barnett, Aria, Nicholas and Jonah Glover and Taylor McClintock.
He will be missed greatly!
