Gene Darby

Gene Darby, age 80, passed away surrounded by his family Thursday morning, December 19, 2019 at his home in Courtland, MS.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at Shiloh Cemetery near Courtland, MS with Rev. Morgan Spencer officiating. Those serving as pallbearers include: Jeff Darby, Jay Darby, Phil Tidwell, Kenny Gaines, Chad Darby, and Michael Darby.

Gene was born to the late Morris Albert Darby and Mary Frances Murphree in Panola County, MS. He was a self-employed electrician and a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. When Gene was not working he enjoyed to go fishing and deer hunting. He was known as a hard-working man that will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Joyce Darby of Courtland, MS; his two sons, Jeff Darby (Debre) of Courtland, MS, and Jay Darby (Cindy) of Senatobia; his daughter, Genelle Scott (Jim) of Oxford, MS; one brother, Bill Darby (Sandra) of Batesville, MS; six grandchildren, Jennifer Marquez (Adam), Chad Darby (Meg), Michael Darby (Layci), Whit Darby, Jay Scott, and Casey Sisk (Will); and five great grandchildren, Isabel Marquez, Darby Marquez, Georgia Sisk, Baylor Sisk, and baby boy Darby.
