Clara Nell Kennedy Whitten

February 8, 1933 — June 9, 2018

Clara Nell Kennedy Whitten, age 85, passed away Saturday evening June 9, 2018 at her home in Batesville, MS. She was the widow of the late James Gorden Whitten, Sr.

Funeral services for Clara will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in the Martin Willingham Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Charles Reed will be officiating. 

Clara was born February 8, 1933 to the late James Edward and Margaret Rester Kennedy in Angie, LA. Clara was the owner of the Retail Shop in Sardis for 5 years and a philmaid sewer in Batesville for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS and also a GA leader there. She was also a 4-H member and a Cub Scout Den leader for Pack 78. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, fishing, drawing and painting. 

Those she leaves behind to cherish her loving memory would include her daughter, Nancy Clara Whitten Cantrell (Mitch); her sons, Robert Kennedy Whitten (Jill) and James Gorden Whitten, Jr. (Melanie); one sister, Ruby Kennedy Dragon of North Shore, LA; 7 grandchildren, Amber Hannah, Scott Hannah, Whit Whitten, Chance Whitten, Cole Singleton, Jillian Johnson, and Benjamin Wade Davis; and 6 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband Clara is preceded in death by one daughter, Terry Francis Whitten; 3 sisters, Thelma Kennedy Reech, Hazel Kennedy Jeeter, and Athale Kennedy Tutlos; and one brother, Joseph Edward Kennedy.
