Rev. Cathron Dimond Camp, age 93, passed away in the early morning hours of March 25, 2024 at Azalea Commons in Batesville, MS. 

There will be a memorial service held to celebrate the life of Cathron at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Wells Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00. 

Cathron was born July 16, 1930 to the late Henry Kinchen McMahen and Mary Elizabeth Duckett McMahen in Leflore, MS.  On April 21, 1950, Cathron won the $100 sweepstakes award given by the Commercial Appeal for the best writing from all of the eighteen colleges participating in the Festival at Mississippi State College.  Her essay (“Anything For Me?”) referred to the Holcomb, MS Post Office where her mother was Post Master.  She was also a school teacher for forty years.

In addition to her parents, Cathron was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank Camp. She is survived by three children, Ronald McMahen Camp (Suzanne) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Deborah Elizabeth Phillips of Madison, MS; and William Dimond Camp (Heather) of Lexington, KY; and five grandchildren.
