Robert Lee "Bobby" York, a steadfast pillar of the Batesville community and a beloved fixture in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday,
The family will be celebrating Bobby's life at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Batesville Presbyterian Church with the family receiving friends beginning at 11:30 A.M. prior to the service. Following the funeral service, Bobby will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sara Thompson York, in Black Jack Cemetery.
March 22, 2025, at the of 84. Born on August 13, 1940, in Potts Camp, Mississippi, Bobby's journey through life was marked by unwavering commitment, boundless service, and an enduring love for his family and community.
Bobby's professional life spanned over three decades as the owner of the former York Alignment in Batesville, where he devoted himself to providing exceptional service and building lasting relationships with his customers. His dedication to his work was paralleled by his civic involvement, serving as a Constable in Panola County for eight years. Beyond his business pursuits, he proudly dedicated 66 years to the Batesville Fire Department, a role that was not only a job but a calling—an embodiment of his passion for aiding others during times of need.
Through every chapter of his life, Bobby remained devoted to his country, serving honorably in the Mississippi National Guard. His military service reflected his character—a blend of strength, bravery, and selflessness that resonated deeply within him.
Bobby was a family man at heart, cherished and respected by his loved ones. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca York Bell (Marvin) of Duncan, Mississippi, and his loving grandchildren, Leslie Anne Bell Bass (B) and Robert Walton Bell, both of Duncan, Mississippi. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Sandra Thompson Wilson of Batesville, MS. His zest for life and passion for helping others were a guiding light for those around him. Whether it was through fishing, hunting or sharing his culinary talents at community events, Bobby's spirit of giving often left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
Sadly, Bobby now joins the ranks of those who have passed before him, including his beloved wife, Sara Thompson York, and his son, Robert Lee York, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elisha and Inez Walton Barnes York, as well as his siblings: sister Betty York Whitaker Vance and brother William Elisha York, Jr. Even in absence, the echoes of his love and dedication remain within the hearts of all who cherished him.
The tapestry of Bobby's life is woven with threads of loyalty, compassion, and an unwavering spirit of community service. He will be missed dearly, but his legacy of kindness and dedication will forever illuminate the lives of those who knew him.
