Bobby G. Barnett, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Oklahoma from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS with the interment to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Thursday moring at the First Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 A.M.
Bobby was born October 12, 1929 to the late Albert "Jack" and Velma Barnett in Panola County.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Dorothy (Dot) W. Chamblee Barnett. Bobby is survived by one brother, Albert Hugh Barnett (MaryLou) of Batesville; 3 nephews, Dr. Charles Barnett (Kim) of Batesville, Gene Barnett of Huntsville, AL., and Tim Barnett (Angela) of Batesville; one niece, Latitia Hopper (Dennis) of Batesville; 2 step-sons, Bilbo Chamblee, Jr. of Hereford, TX. His 2 sons are Ben and Robert Chamblee and step-son Stan Chamblee (Stephanie) of Madison. His daughter Rebecca and son Danny live with their families in the Memphis area. `
After attending Batesville High School, Northwest Community College, and Mississippi State University, Bobby was accepted into the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Program and served 21 years on active duty as a transport airplane pilot. Bobby retired with the commissioned rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following Air Force service, Bobby worked for 20 years for the Mississippi State Employment Service as a Veteran's Employment Representative.
Bobby loved his Batesville First Baptist Church, his family, and his friends with whom he played a variety of card games. Bobby was a member of the Rotary Club of Batesville, a "Paul Harris" fellow, and life member of the V.F.W. Bobby enjoyed traveling, southern gospel singing, and deer hunting.
