Billy A. Herron, age 88, passed away on December 14, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, MS.

Funeral services for Billy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Courtland. Mr. Matthew Crowe and Mr. Randy Walters will officiate.

Billy was born November 23, 1934, one of three children to the late Willie Alvin Herron and Virginia Hartzell Herron in Courtland, MS. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Billy retired after 21 years of service from the Mississippi Highway Patrol where he worked as a State Trooper and Investigator. Billy was proud to be a graduate of the FBI Academy. He was a member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ.

The loving family he leaves behind to cherish his memory includes his daughter, Cathy Herron Massey (Chris) of Nesbit, MS; sons, Jeff Herron (Sandy) of Hernando, MS, John Herron (Maryana) of Millersville, MD; step-sons, Randy Walters (Debbie) of McAlester, OK, Matt Walters (Laneia) of Rolla MO; sister, Betty Hudson of Batesville, MS; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rosenthal Herron; his second wife, Nancy Walters Herron; and one brother Jimmy Herron.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mississippi State Troopers Association.
